Gregory McLellan
Gregory McLellan makes artworks that rarely stay where they begin.
A drawing becomes a folded object. A painting waits years before finding its companion. Fluorescent pigments remain dormant until ultraviolet light reveals them. Stories migrate between bodies of work, while sculptures, performances, and sound gradually emerge from ideas that first appeared on paper decades earlier. Working between East Harlem and the South Bronx, McLellan's practice treats time as one of its primary materials.

observation, material experimentation, and unexpected encounters. His work often begins with simple physical actions—folding, pouring, sanding, pressing, walking—and follows those processes wherever they lead rather than toward a predetermined image.
McLellan received a BFA from the University of Michigan and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work has been exhibited in Washington, D.C. and New York, and is held in private collections throughout the United States. His current practice increasingly brings together visual art, writing, music, and sound into a larger body of work that continues expanding across media.
